Rappers Doug E Fresh and Snoop Dogg highlight 9th BET Hip Hop Awards

With a snap of his mom on a huge screen behind him, Doug E Fresh clambered to finish his sentence. The rapper nicknamed The Human Beat Box choked and cast off tears as he got I Am Hip-Hop Award at 9th BET Hip Hop honors earlier on Saturday. Doug E Fresh told the audience that his mom was suffering from Alzheimer's disease and she died 5 months ago.
At the taped show at Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center, the rapper told: "I have to acknowledge her,"
"I want to thank this woman and hip-hop. If it wasn't for hip-hop, I don't know where I would be."
He also thanked all those people who served him along his career, from Slick Rick to Get Fresh Crew. The show would air on 14th October.
The DJ became known for simulating drums as well as creating special effects with his mouth and microphone. Following his speech, Doug performed one of his top hits named La Di Da Di with Snoop Dogg, the show's host.
In a video that paid homage to Fresh: "He's the definition of moving the crowd."
DJ Mustard received the award for Producer of the Year, and Future's track Move That Dope snatched Best Club Banger honor. The most applause came following a recorded freestyle that features Common, Big Sean, Pusha T and Kanye West.
